Polymer Quenchant

Polymer quenchants are water-based solutions used in heat treatment to control the cooling rate of metals. They are a popular alternative to traditional oil quenchants due to their environmental and safety advantages.   The polymer in the solution forms a thin film on the metal surface during quenching. This film affects the heat transfer rate, slowing down the cooling process compared to quenching in plain water. The concentration of the polymer in the solution determines the cooling rate – higher concentrations result in slower cooling.
